The varied hike in the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm/Alpe di Rodengo e Luson area starts at the Kreuznerhof parking area in Ellen and leads through peaceful forest sections up to the vast alpine pastures of the Lüsen/Luson Ridge. The tour delights hikers with a unique combination of scenic viewpoints, rolling alpine landscapes and numerous mountain huts offering refreshments.
The ascent to Walder Alm already provides the first impressive views of the surrounding mountains. From there, the route continues to Burgstall at 2,194 m, an outstanding viewpoint with magnificent panoramic views over the Bruneck basin, the striking peaks of the Rieserferner Group and the extensive high plateaus of the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm/Alpe di Rodengo e Luson. Those wishing to extend the hike can also continue to Astjoch at 2,147 m, which offers even more spectacular panoramic vistas.
The special charm of this tour lies in the vast alpine meadows stretching between Burgstall, Rastner Hut and Astjoch. The almost level high-altitude trails make it easy to explore the varied alpine landscape at a relaxed pace. Starting from the Kreuznerhof parking area in Ellen, follow trail no. 67 through the forest towards Walder Alm. The route initially follows a wide forest track, climbing steadily through shaded woodland to the alpine pasture area. Beyond Walder Alm, trail no. 67 continues across open alpine meadows and gentle grassy slopes to Burgstall (2,194 m). From the summit, hikers are rewarded with impressive panoramic views of the Bruneck/Brunico basin, the Rieserferner Group and the vast high plateaus of the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm/ Alpe di Rodengo e Luson.
From Burgstall, continue on trail no. 67 through the varied alpine landscape towards Rastner Hut. This almost level high-altitude trail passes picturesque mountain ponds, lush alpine meadows and extensive grazing areas, making it one of the most scenic sections of the hike. Along the way, both Rastner Hut and Starkenfeld Hut offer excellent opportunities to stop for refreshments and enjoy regional specialties.
For the return, follow the circular route marked no. 67B. The trail makes a wide loop through the open alpine landscape back towards Ellen. It then rejoins trail no. 67, which leads through light woodland back to the Kreuznerhof parking area
From Bruneck/Brunico, drive via St. Lorenzen/San Lorenzo towards Ellen. Continue along the road to the Kreuznerhof parking area above Ellen, which serves as the starting point of the hike.
