Cultural Highlights in Chienes-Kiens

Chienes-Kiens is the perfect starting point for excursions into nature. Highlights include themed hiking trails such as the Culture Hike, the Butterfly Trail and the Roman Trail with a series of informative texts and illustrations.

Schöneck Castle gives visitors the chance to take a journey back in time to the 12th and 13th centuries at the mighty residence which, like Ehrenburg Castle, has painted ceilings and elaborate frescoes illustrating scenes from its history.
The castle Schöneck and the castle Ehrenburg can be viewed only from the outside.

Further highlights in Chienes-Kiens include the many churches with fascinating details:

  • Church St. Petrus & Paulus in Kiens: exceptional ceiling paintings
  • Church in St. Sigmund: The high altar (1440) is one of the oldest and most important winged altars in South Tyrol.
  • Church St. Martin in Hofern: winged altar dating from 1520
  • Church Maria Assumption in Ehrenburg: baroque church with crypt chapel and interesting paintings such as the "Gnadenbild"
