An exciting, informative and entertaining circular hike through an area rich in history and culture. One of the highlights is a visit to the historic Auslugerhof farm, dating back to the 12th century, with its charming farm shop. Here you can discover homemade products made from 100% regional ingredients and certified with the “Roter Hahn/Red Rooster” quality seal.
A short train ride takes us to the beautiful market town of St. Lorenzen/San Lorenzo di Sebato (810 m), the starting point of our hike. Following partly unmarked and lesser-known trails through meadows and forests, we enjoy beautiful views across the Bruneck/Brunico basin and towards the Rieserferner/Vedrette di Ries mountain group. We cross Onsberg (939 m) and reach the Auslugerhof farm in the idyllic village of St. Martin/San Martino, where we visit the historic farm and enjoy a relaxing break.
Afterwards, we walk through the village, characterised by the striking Michelsburg/Castel San Michele, historic residences and traditional farms, before reaching the western end of St. Lorenzen/San Lorenzo di Sebato. With the impressive Sonnenburg/Castel Badia in view, we continue to the picturesque district of Sonnenburg/Castelbadia (830 m).
An exciting traverse below Sonnenburger Kopf (937 m) then takes us through the so-called “hazelnut tunnel”. With magnificent views over the St. Lorenzen/San Lorenzo di Sebato basin, we begin the final section of the hike, following the rushing Rienz/Rienza River back to our starting point.
