A sensory hike from St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo to Issing/Issengo with local flavours, herbs and Kneipp facilities, plus a refreshing stop at Issinger Weiher/Lago d’Issengo.
A true hike for all the senses, this route leads from St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo via Kiens/Chienes to Issing/Issengo. The trail combines peaceful natural and rural landscapes with special stops showcasing local flavours and traditions.
From St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo, the route leads through meadows, fields and woodland towards Kiens/Chienes and on to Issing/Issengo. Along the way, the Gatscher farm cheese dairy is a great place to discover local cheese specialities and regional flavours.
Another highlight is Bergila with its mountain pine distillery and herb garden. Here, the intense scent of mountain pine and a variety of herbs fills the air, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the alpine plant world with all your senses.
Below Bergila, the rest area at Grünbach with its Kneipp facility is perfect for a relaxing break. The cool water provides welcome refreshment, especially on warm summer days.
The hike then continues to Issing/Issengo and Issinger Weiher/Lago d’Issengo. In summer, the natural bathing lake is the perfect place for a refreshing swim and a relaxing break before returning to St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo along the same route.
The hike follows a varied mix of forest and meadow paths, natural trails and some paved side roads. A delightful tour combining nature, regional specialities, fragrant herbs and refreshing moments into an experience for all the senses.

The hike starts in the village centre of St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo. From here, follow trail no. 2 towards Gisse. The route leads out of the village and continues mainly through meadows and the peaceful rural landscape of the Pustertal/Val Pusteria.
At Gisse, continue along trail no. 2, following the signs towards Kiens/Chienes. The route follows easy paths through meadows, fields and past traditional farms. Along the way, you pass the Gatscher farm cheese dairy, a great place to stop and discover local cheese specialities.
Continue along trail no. 2 until you reach Kiens/Chienes. In the village, change to trail no. 1 and follow it towards Issing/Issengo. The trail now climbs gently through the varied meadow and woodland landscape above Kiens/Chienes.
Further along, you reach Bergila with its mountain pine distillery and herb garden. It is worth allowing some extra time for a visit. The scent of mountain pine and different herbs makes this a special experience along the route. Below Bergila, at Grünbach/Rio Verde, there is also a pleasant rest area with a Kneipp facility, perfect for a refreshing break on warm days.
From Bergila, continue along trail no. 1 towards Issing/Issengo and Issinger Weiher/Lago d’Issengo. The route leads through woodland and meadows before reaching the natural bathing lake. In summer, Issinger Weiher/Lago d’Issengo is the perfect place for a longer break and a refreshing swim.
The return follows the same route. From Issinger Weiher/Lago d’Issengo, take trail no. 1 past Bergila and back to Kiens/Chienes. Here, change back to trail no. 2 and follow it via Gisse to St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo, returning to the starting point in the village centre.
The hike mainly follows easy natural paths, forest and meadow trails, with some sections on paved side roads. The various stops for local products, nature experiences and relaxation make this an ideal tour for combining hiking with regional flavours and enjoyable breaks.
From Bruneck/Brunico, follow the Pustertal Valley state road to St. Sigmund/San Sigismondo. The starting point of the hike is located at the parish church in the village centre.
