Welcome to Dickenhof – the traditional farm of the Atzwanger family!

Step back in time and experience a farm with a history dating back to 1370, when Dickenhof was a fief of the Counts of Künigl. Over generations, the farm has been nurtured with love and dedication, evolving into a modern dairy farm where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.

In 2005, we realized a dream: converting our historic outbuildings – the Backhäusl (first mentioned in 1370) and the Zuhäusl (from 1820) – into charming holiday homes. At the same time, we created two cozy holiday apartments: the Bergwohnung and the Hoamatlwohnung. In 2025, a new lovingly designed apartment, the Bauernstibele, joined our family of accommodations.

Nestled in a peaceful hamlet in Hofern, our farm enjoys a sunny location with breathtaking panoramic views of Pfalzen, Issing, the Puster Valley, and the Dolomites. Here, away from the noise and rush of everyday life, you can truly relax and reconnect with nature.

Farmer Maria ensures every guest feels at home. With her warm hospitality and daily care for the animals, she supports her son Rudolf, who now runs the farm with passion and dedication. Together with her late husband Johann, she has shaped the heart and soul of Dickenhof. Although Johann passed away in 2019, his legacy and love for the farm live on in the family and on the land.

Dickenhof has always been home to cows, hens, and pigs. What started as a small farm has grown into a thriving, modern dairy operation, cared for today by young farmer Rudolf. Guests can enjoy an authentic farm experience, from observing the animals to strolling through fragrant hay meadows and savoring the tranquility of the countryside.

FARM HOLIDAYS – EXPERIENCE NATURE AND DISCOVER AGRICULTURE

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY ON OUR FARM

Many different animals live on our farm, and they are an important part of everyday life. These include cows, calves, chickens, cats, and pigs. All animals are kept in a species-appropriate way and are lovingly cared for.

The cows spend most of the year out on the pasture, where they graze on fresh grass and can move freely. They are milked twice a day, and the milk is used to produce high-quality products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. The calves are the young members of the herd. They receive special care and grow up healthy and strong. Guests can watch the calves drinking, playing, and curiously exploring their surroundings.

Our chickens roam freely around the farm, scratch in the ground, and lay fresh eggs every day. These eggs come directly from the farm and are welcome for guests to enjoy. The farm cats are also an essential part of farm life. They keep mice away and are very popular with both children and adults. The pigs live in spacious stables or outdoor enclosures. They are intelligent, curious animals and enjoy attention.

FIELD WORK AND AGRICULTURE

In addition to animal husbandry, fieldwork plays a central role on our farm. Various crops are grown on the surrounding fields, such as grain, corn, and fodder plants for the animals. In spring, the fields are prepared and sown. In summer, the plants grow, and in autumn, the harvest is brought in.

Modern agricultural machinery such as tractors makes the work easier, but farming still requires a great deal of knowledge, experience, and daily dedication. Guests gain insight into the annual agricultural cycle and learn where food comes from and how it is produced.

TAKE PART, LEARN, AND RELAX

A farm holiday is not just about watching – it is also about taking part. Depending on interest, guests may help feed the animals, collect eggs, or accompany the farmer during daily tasks. Children learn responsibility in a playful way and develop an understanding of animals and nature.

At the same time, the farm offers plenty of space for relaxation. Wide meadows, peaceful surroundings, and a warm family atmosphere create a sense of calm and well-being. Whether playing outdoors, going for walks, or enjoying cozy moments together, everyone will find both relaxation and variety here.
